When we created our Veggie Fries with Kale, Tuscan Herbs and Potatoes, we knew we were onto something great. Not only is the taste undeniable, but the nutrition profile can’t be beat. Where else can you get a crispy outside loaded with protein, fiber and vitamins?

One of the most impressive part of the nutrient profile is the role of the white bean in creating the product. White beans are not only high in minerals and fiber, but rich in protein as well. When looking at the nutritional profile in beans one can see that one cup of beans supplies about 40% of the recommended dietary allowance for fiber. In addition to it’s 12 grams of fiber, a cup contains about 15 grams of protein. That amount of protein provides about 30 percent of the RDA for women, and 26 percent for men. White beans can be used as a main staple in the vegetarian diet, where it is often hard to take in enough protein. Add to this is the fact that white beans are low in fat and are cholesterol free. Packed with vitamins and minerals, and more than 10 percent of the macrominerals that are needed by the body in larger amounts, it is no surprise that beans can play an important role in the diet.

What’s the fuss over protein? Well, not only is protein used to make enzymes, hormones and other chemicals in the body but they serve as an important building block of bones, muscles, skin and blood. Beans also offer a tremendous amount of health benefits, as they are loaded with antioxidants, help to regulate fat storage, supply a significant supply of magnesium and help to fight off cancers and heart disease.

Beans have been used as a complimentary protein alongside rice for many cultures, while others have found them to be the perfect compliment in making soups and stews. We decided to go one step further and add beans to our blend of potatoes and vegetables to create a delicious and nutritious product that will complete any meal!
